If you plan to attend the LASA inaugural Regional Symposium on-site, August 4–7, 2026, be sure to check the requirements for travel and entry to Costa Rica.

Letters supporting Costa Rica visa applications will soon be available for download on this same page for individuals who have submitted a proposal for the Symposium, as well as for those who register.

Most people need a visa to enter Costa Rica

Most travelers around the world need a visa to enter Costa Rica, as only a limited group of countries are visa-exempt. Costa Rica’s immigration policy is based on specific official lists of those limited visa-exempt nationalities. If your country does not appear on those lists, you are generally required to obtain a visa before traveling.

Foreign nationals must meet these entry requirements to visit Costa Rica:
  • A valid passport or travel document.
  • A visa, when required, as established by the General Guidelines for Entry Visas and Stay for Non-Residents.
  • Proof of economic solvency, with a minimum of USD $100.00 (one hundred U.S. dollars) per month or fraction of a month of authorized stay in the country.
  • A return ticket to the country of origin or a ticket for onward travel, or a navigation plan showing the port of destination.
  • Not being subject to any prohibition on entering national territory.

The information provided above does not encompass all requirements for obtaining a visa to enter Costa Rica.
